Coil Tube

In the oil and gas industry, stainless steel coil tubing, also called flexible tubing or CT, is a long continuous string of tubing spooled on a large reel. The coiled tubing sizes normally ranges from 1 to 3.25 in (25 to 83 mm) in diameter. The metal coil tubing is used for interventions in oil and gas wells and sometimes as production tubing in depleted gas wells. Coiled tubing is often used to carry out operations similar to wire lining.

Stainless Steel Coil Tubing Benefits

The main benefits of a steel pipe coil are the ability to pump chemicals through the coil and the ability to push it into the hole rather than relying on gravity. Pumping can be fairly self-contained, almost a closed system, since the coiled hoses are continuous instead of a jointed pipe. For offshore operations, the 'footprint' for a coiled tubing operation is generally larger than a wireline spread, which can limit the number of installations where coiled tubing can be performed and make the operation more costly.

Difference between Seamless and Welded Stainless Steel Coil Tubing

Seamless stainless steel coil tubing is made from a solid billet, offering uniformity and higher strength, especially for high-pressure or high-temperature applications, as it lacks a weld seam.

Welded stainless steel coil tubing, on the other hand, is produced by rolling and welding a flat strip of steel, making it more cost-effective and suitable for most standard applications but it may have slightly lower pressure tolerance due to the weld seam.
